Summary: I really wanted to love Chautauqua Resort, but unfortunately the property itself was a huge disappointment. I will say the staff was amazing, kind, helpful, and accommodating. They upgraded us from a very uncomfortable hotel room to a condo without any issue, and I truly appreciated that. The condo itself, though, felt outdated and poorly maintained. Nearly every storage area was locked, leaving almost nowhere to put blankets or luggage. The bed had an exposed box spring, was extremely squeaky, and even the knobs on the bed frame were loose. The ceiling fan made a loud clunking noise, the back screen door was rusted and falling apart, patio chairs were covered in rust, and there were stains on walls and surfaces. So many of these things could be fixed cheaply with just a little effort. The amenities were even more disappointing. The outdoor fire pits had no propane, one patio couch had broken legs, and the wind-blocking panels were only partially installed. The pool area had standing water everywhere, rust, stained furniture, and filthy bathrooms. The hot tub was murky, several jets did not work, and the sauna had broken pieces and graffiti carved into the wood. The beach access is BEAUTIFUL and the staff deserves credit, but when you pay resort prices, you expect the amenities to actually work and the property to feel clean and cared for. This place has so much potential, which honestly made the lack of upkeep even more frustrating.
